U19s edged out with only 10 men

With only 9 fit players and 1 injured Ella were very unlucky to come away with nothing going down 2-1 against a full strength wildcats blacks. Ella started off on the front foot and should have taken the lead in the 1st min with Kier Allwood being put through on goal but Blacks keeper kept it out. A few more chances came Ella’s way but to no avail. Blacks went into a 2-0 lead and then Ella kept pressing and just before HT Kier slotted the ball back to Jack Loz on the edge of the box and he slotted home to make 2-1. The 2nd started with some good football from Ella but were kept at bay with some good defending from Blacks. This proved to be the story of the 2nd half as Ella went in search of a deserved equaliser but it just wasn’t to be. The…

Westella U16s destroy Hutton

Westella & Willerby Juniors u’16’s produced their best football of the season to blow Hutton Cranswick away 8-1 . The goal fest started within a minute when Owen Kirk was set free down the left and cut in to shoot home. Ella were playing some great passing football and had Hutton on the back foot as they pressed for a second. That came when a shot by Brandon Richards crashed against the bar but Charlie Brooks was on hand to keep his cool and sweep home for 2-0. Brooks added a 3rd goal before some more good work down the left lead to a 4th goal.  Good passing between ‘Rico, Atilla, Lupton and Kirk let the latter set up a cut back for Josh Wares to finish with a neat left foot shot from 10 yards. This Saturday sees Westella & Willerby welcome mid table Glasshoughton Welfare to The Euronics ground, Barton with a 3-00pm kick off. After last weekends disappointing defeat away to Selby Town the arrival of Glasshoughton will give manager Leon Sewell the chance to address his players and put their wrongs right. “Last Saturday was one of the worst days in my managerial career, to get beat in the manor we did and to see the players throw the towel in like they did was bitterly disappointing” “Saturday’s game against Glasshoughton will be another challenge and I’ll be demanding the upmost from the players that are selected to play”

An Impressive display from the U9s

Westella Willerby u9s put in 2 more impressive displays at Dene Park versus East Yorkshire Carnegie Blacks on Sunday 16th October. In torrential rain they dominated proceedings from the start and with 2 more clean sheets to boot, the boys have taken their game to the next level.             Game 1 started with Carnegie having a good go at Westella and a smart near post save denied Carnegie an early lead. Westella responded well and scored on 6 minutes after a good run down the right and a perfectly weighted pass was well executed. Westella’s keeper had to be alert once more as Carnegie looked dangerous and again he saved well. The next move was a touch of real class by Westella as a move starting from goalkeeper all the way down field with slick passing in the blink of an eye was turned in by Westella’s striker at the…

Narrow loss leaves U16s dissapointed

The Under 16s narrowly lost 2-1 to Longhill in a scrappy game away in the rain. Some poor refereeing decisions and an over the top physical Longhill side prevented Westella from getting the draw that they perhaps deserved. It was a game that the boys felt they could have taken a point from, but will move on to the next game and make sure they bounce back from the disappointment!  The Westella goal came from Josh Richards’ back side.  Unlucky lads!
