An Impressive display from the U9s

Westella Willerby u9s put in 2 more impressive displays at Dene Park versus East Yorkshire Carnegie Blacks on Sunday 16th October. In torrential rain they dominated proceedings from the start and with 2 more clean sheets to boot, the boys have taken their game to the next level.             Game 1 started with Carnegie having a good go at Westella and a smart near post save denied Carnegie an early lead. Westella responded well and scored on 6 minutes after a good run down the right and a perfectly weighted pass was well executed. Westella’s keeper had to be alert once more as Carnegie looked dangerous and again he saved well. The next move was a touch of real class by Westella as a move starting from goalkeeper all the way down field with slick passing in the blink of an eye was turned in by Westella’s striker at the…

Westella Under 9s continue to perform

Westella Willerby u9s once again proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the HDYFL as they demonstrated exquisite pass and move football at home to North Ferriby United Whites on Sunday October 9th.                         Game 1 started in true Westella style as they played with passion and purpose in closing the opposition down and building masterfully from the back. After hitting the woodwork early on the deadlock was broken as a training ground move was well executed by Westella’s striker after superb build up play. Ferriby responded well and scored within minutes after their striker never gave up and deserved his goal for persistence. The pendulum swung again 3 minutes later as a great cross was laid off perfectly and Westella’s striker finished a chance with his magical feet once more. Westella then hit the woodwork…

More breathtaking football from the under 9s

Westella & Willerby u9s manager & coach are running out of superlatives to describe the boys form as they crafted another dazzling display at Driffield Tigers on Sunday 2nd October.     After a quality performance against AFC Kingston the previous week Westella were in a dominant mood once more as they played “total” football way above their years.     From the outset Westella took a firm grip of game 1 as a delightful corner was met by a Westella forward who finished well on 4 minutes. A minute later and a great pass was well read and Westella scored again. Superb slick distribution on 12 minutes from Westella’s goalkeeper fed his defender who played a slide rule pass down the right and a precision pass was met at the far post by a Westella forward who finished the move off emphatically. Driffield rallied for a time but the half belonged…

A great first match day of the season for the U9s

Westella & Willerby u9s began their league campaign pitched against another fellow heavy weight in the top division at Haworth Park in the shape of Hall Road Rangers Tigers on Sunday September 18th.   In temperatures of 20 degrees & with hardly any breeze it was going to be hard going for the new format of 7 v 7 and 2 games of 30 minutes.   Hall Road took the kick off and within the first minute carved out a chance with a good run and cross met by a close range strike hitting the cross bar. Westella’s keeper then organised his defence and they began to build good moves from the back.   The visitors then took the lead midway through the half after again great build up play from defence to midfield found the Westella forward who ran into space and unleashed a fantastic left footed drive from…
