Last Saturday saw Westella take on AFC Emley who prior to kick off where in second place behind this weekends visitors. With the score locked 0-0 and Westella riding their luck and some wayward shooting for Emley it was soon to take a turn for the worse for manager Leon Sewell in the second half. A route one piece of play from Emley saw them take a 1-0 lead and shortly after some poor officiating was to spoil the game and fundamentally spoil the hard work Westella had put in in the first half. First up saw captain Matt Fyvie dismissed with a straight red card for a fair shoulder challenge with Emley strike Flynn, Flynn missing the target with his penalty. Back to back wins for Westella…

Eccleshill United where the visitors to The Euronics Ground for the NCEL division one fixture with Westella striker Danny Walker bagging himself four goals. Westella started the game at a great tempo playing some attractive football on a very heavy pitch whilst the visitors adapted to playing surface, Danny Walker fired just wide from a tight angle with the visiting goal keeper beaten. Moments later home keeper Lewis Exall was called into action producing a fine save to keep the visitors at bay. From the resulting corner the visitors took the lead, the ball half cleared fell to Sam Bradley who had the ease of finishing under no pressure. Much needed win for the first team!

Ollerton Town FC was the location for Westella & Willerby on Saturday in the NCEL division one league fixture schedule. Historically, Ollerton Town and Westella have had some good battles challenging one another many a time in the Central Midland Football League. The opening 20 minutes was an even game as both sides tried to play football. Westella drew the first effort on goal. Chris Short driving into the Ollerton half, releasing Danny Walker down the right wing who pulled the ball back for strike partner Mike Pecora, unfortunately for Pecora his shot was stopped on the line by the Ollerton full back. Within a split second the hosts come to life with a quick counter attack that ended with a fine save from Westella keeper Lewis Exall. Last minute goal robs Westella of a point

Westella & Willerby AFC welcomed Sheffield based Hallam FC to The Euronics ground on Saturday and very nearly caused a big upset. On a poor playing surface, Hallam kicked the game off and straight away gave the ball away trying to play football. Danny Walker immediately pinching the ball and firing down low to the right of the Hallam keeper. A minute later and Westella got in behind the visitors defence, Goole loanee Charlie Shelley cutting the ball back for Chris Short who fired just over the bar from 18 yards. It was only a matter of time till Hallam adapted to the pitch getting the ball out wide to the lively Brammer and Ord who continued to drive at Westella full backs in Stone and Dodson but failed with any real quality. Westella welcome Glasshoughton

This Saturday sees Westella & Willerby welcome mid table Glasshoughton Welfare to The Euronics ground, Barton with a 3-00pm kick off. After last weekends disappointing defeat away to Selby Town the arrival of Glasshoughton will give manager Leon Sewell the chance to address his players and put their wrongs right. “Last Saturday was one of the worst days in my managerial career, to get beat in the manor we did and to see the players throw the towel in like they did was bitterly disappointing” “Saturday’s game against Glasshoughton will be another challenge and I’ll be demanding the upmost from the players that are selected to play”
