More breathtaking football from the under 9s

Westella & Willerby u9s manager & coach are running out of superlatives to describe the boys form as they crafted another dazzling display at Driffield Tigers on Sunday 2nd October.     After a quality performance against AFC Kingston the previous week Westella were in a dominant mood once more as they played “total” football way above their years.     From the outset Westella took a firm grip of game 1 as a delightful corner was met by a Westella forward who finished well on 4 minutes. A minute later and a great pass was well read and Westella scored again. Superb slick distribution on 12 minutes from Westella’s goalkeeper fed his defender who played a slide rule pass down the right and a precision pass was met at the far post by a Westella forward who finished the move off emphatically. Driffield rallied for a time but the half belonged…

Westella U9s go from strength to strength

Westella & Willerby u9s produced possibly performance of the day in the top league with a footballing masterclass in game 1 in their opening home fixture on Sunday September 25th against a quality Afc Kingston Lions u9s.     From the first whistle Westella began like a steam train as they pushed forward at every opportunity with driving runs from midfield and determined defending.   Westella opened the scoring on 3 minutes as a cross was well met at the far post. The lead was quickly doubled as a through ball was clinically finished.  Kingston then had a couple of half chances as Westella counter attacked with pace and scored once more. 10 minutes in and another swift breakaway by Westella was rewarded with another goal for superb persistence. The half was capped off with another counter attacking goal which put Westella out of sight by half time and left a…

A great first match day of the season for the U9s

Westella & Willerby u9s began their league campaign pitched against another fellow heavy weight in the top division at Haworth Park in the shape of Hall Road Rangers Tigers on Sunday September 18th.   In temperatures of 20 degrees & with hardly any breeze it was going to be hard going for the new format of 7 v 7 and 2 games of 30 minutes.   Hall Road took the kick off and within the first minute carved out a chance with a good run and cross met by a close range strike hitting the cross bar. Westella’s keeper then organised his defence and they began to build good moves from the back.   The visitors then took the lead midway through the half after again great build up play from defence to midfield found the Westella forward who ran into space and unleashed a fantastic left footed drive from…

Westella through after thrashing Jags

Westella and Willerby under 13s are through to the next round of the knock out cup after winning 9-0 against Willerby Jags. Westella made a confident start to the game and began playing some lovely football and creating chance after chance. There could have been a very early goal after a long range shot was fumbled by the Willerby Jags keeper, but he did well to keep it from rolling over the line. Westella continued to look like scoring with a header from Alex going just wide and a rebound being narrowly missed by Jay. After 20 minutes in the first half it looked like Westella were never going to break through the Jags defence, especially after two miraculous goal line clearances back to back from the Jags full back and then their captain. However, Westella made sure they didn’t get their heads down and kept creating chances with some lovely…
