Much needed point for Westella & Willerby AFC

Westella & Willerby AFC made the long journey to Bradford taking on NCEL new boys Campion FC and returned home with a much needed point in a 1-1 draw. Westella started the brightest of the two sides on a very heavy pitch in windy conditions. Danny Walker, Alex Wood and Mike Pecora causing the home defence problems from the off showed the intent that Westella weren’t going to let the home side have an easy afternoon. Harry Earl and Chris Short returned to the side and both caused problems playing some neat through balls for Walker and Wood to register early chances on goal. Campion grew in to the first half with some neat play that saw some resolute defending from the Westella back four, the hosts only real danger was long distance efforts that flew high and wide of the Westella goal. A bright opening period for Westella saw them crest some early opportunities, most noteable coming from Chris Short down the right hand side driving inwards putting Alex Wood through on goal drawing a comfortable save from Dan Waring in the Brigg goal. Both sides at times where wide open and it soon became a game of you attack, we attack with little ball retention from either side. Brigg however did break the determined Westella defence on the half hour mark when midfielder Smith cut inside and fired a curling left foot effort in to the far side of the goal for 1-0. Andrews leaves it late to score for Westella

Lewis Andrews popped up in the 80th minute on Wednesday evening to ensure his side and Westella took all three points against fellow league strugglers Teversal FC. The first half was one that didn’t really have much to shout home about with both sides giving the ball away numerous times inviting unnecessary pressure on to one another. Most notable opportunities fell to the home side with Westella unable to bundle the ball home with Danny Holiday heading straight in to the visiting keepers arms on 5 minutes. Holiday again had a further chance but lost control of the ball as it ended up in the keepers hands. Right on the stroke of half time Chris Short delivered a corner that fell at the back post following a smart save only for a last ditch block clearing Mike Hewitt’s close range shot. The visitors flew out of the blocks in the…
